People See A Strange Thing Stranded On An Iceberg Thousands Of Miles Away
Mallory Harrigan and her colleagues spotted something strange last week while onboard a crab-fishing boat off the coast of Labrador, Canada. There was a pretty large mushroom-shaped iceberg approximately 4 miles from shore, and it had an unknowing passenger stuck atop it.
Harrigan told The Dodo, “We assumed it was a baby seal.”
They took a closer look after that.
The animal riding the iceberg turned out to be a non-seafaring species.
It turned out to be an Arctic fox, and he was in serious difficulty.
Rather of abandoning the fox to his destiny, Harrigan and her colleagues decided to attempt to assist him. In their boat, they approached the iceberg and wrangled the terrified castaway to safety.
“Even though he resisted it, we were able to get him onboard,” Harrigan added. “We felt we were his only hope of survival since the winds had shifted and were pushing all of the ice out to sea.”
While the fox had ample cause to lose hope, it had suddenly been restored.
Harrigan and the other odd fox rescuers hastily improvised a makeshift bed onboard their boat and fed the tired animal to help him regain his stamina and warmth.
They then embarked on a joint trek back to dry ground.
Harrigan and the crew fed the fox a few more morsels after they returned to the harbor, and then released him.
She explained, “We dumped him in an old doghouse.” “That was it! He shook himself off!”
Harrigan and the others may have just gone out of their way to save the fox for a few minutes, but that little act of compassion changed everything for him.
“We’re pleased we were able to save this animal,” Harrigan said, adding that the fox looks to be doing well and periodically reminds his rescuers of the life he rescued. “We still get to visit him now and again!”
