Dog sneaks over to neighbors house for bathtime

Most dog owners know the struggle of bath time: the dramatic sighs, the sudden dead-weight posture, and the desperate attempts to sprint in the opposite direction.

For Nicole Ackehurst and her family in Melbourne, Australia, their Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Aeida, was no exception. Baths at home were an ordeal. But as it turns out, Aeida didn't actually hate water—she just had very specific standards about where and with whom she bathed.

A Fence with a Secret Portal

The story began with a heartwarming friendship. Aeida’s next-door neighbor was a dog named Cashew, and the two four-legged pals quickly became inseparable. They spent their days longing to play together, watching each other through the wooden fence that separated their backyards.

Seeing how much their dogs adored one another, both families came up with a brilliant solution: they cut a custom doggy door into the shared fence.

From that moment on, Aeida and Cashew had an open-door policy. They could run back and forth between yards, nap together, and turn two separate suburban homes into one giant playground.

The Mysterious Disappearance

The setup worked flawlessly—until the day Nicole couldn’t track Aeida down.

She wasn’t in her own living room, and she wasn't wrestling with Cashew out on the lawn. Assuming the two dogs had simply wandered next door for a snack, Nicole started checking around.

Then came the Facebook message from the neighbors. Attached was a photo that left everyone in stitches:

As Aeida’s mom Nicole told The Dodo, Aeida had developed a massive soft spot not just for Cashew, but for the neighbor’s kids. Whenever she heard splashing and giggles coming from the bathroom next door, the dog who notoriously avoided baths at all costs couldn't resist joining the party.

She would trot through the fence door, head straight for the bathroom, and climb into the tub to splash around with the kids during their evening routine.

In fact, Aeida’s enthusiasm reached a point where she would hop into the neighbors' tub even when it was completely bone-dry—sitting patiently and waiting for someone to turn on the faucet and bring out the bubbles.

Two Families, One Big Pack

Rather than minding the surprise visitor, the neighbors welcomed Aeida’s routine with open arms. Bath time became a neighborhood tradition, turning what is usually a chore into the highlight of the day.
