Police Dog Was Expelled From School For Being ‘Too Cute’, But Found A Better Job

Gavel, a German shepherd, was expelled from police academy in Queensland, Australia, for being “too adorable.” Last year, the dog participated in a police dog training program at Queensland Government House. Although trainers soon determined the dog had not been bit, Governor Paul Jersey’s staff opted to keep the dog out of affection for it.

Gavel, a 1-year-old who underwent intensive training, was unable to do his job effectively and was frequently observed spinning on the floor with his face up, pleading for attention.

Gavel was too charming and personable for the trainers to think he would make a good public security dog.

Gavel would rather have visitors touch his belly, tease him, and pet him than capture criminals and find bombs.

The team decided to transport Gavel to Queensland Government House to greet everyone as he had won their hearts.

He failed his 16-month training program in February when his supervisors at the Queensland Police Service in Brisbane, eastern Australia, determined that he was too amiable.

Governor Paul Jersey decided to adopt this animal as a permanent member of the family after meeting it in April 2016 when he was 10 weeks old and having stayed in the governor of Queensland’s official mansion during his training.
