Connecticut Police Officers Fired Hunter, A K9 Dog Diagnosed With Terminal Liver Cancer, They Formed An Honor Guard To Bid Him A Final Farewell

After receiving a liver cancer diagnosis, a police dog handler in Connecticut was forced to say goodbye to his courageous K9 partner. When tests indicated the unpleasant prognosis for Hunter, who had been ill for a week, the veterinarians advised Hunter’s trainer, Officer Michael D’Aresta, that it was best for Hunter to take it easy.

After learning that Hunter had a severe form of liver cancer, members of the Connecticut Police Department consented to attend his final visit to a veterinary facility.

Hunter, a German shepherd, and Officer D’Aresta served the American city of Middletown together from 2007 until the elderly canine was put to sleep on Saturday after receiving a heartbreaking prognosis.

The Middletown Police Department honored the devoted K9 dog in a Facebook post that has received more than 6,000 reactions so far. The message read:

“Since 2007, Officer D’Aresta and Hunter have worked superbly together to serve the City of Middletown. As you can expect, this is quite challenging for Mike and his family.”

Officer D’Aresta escorted Hunter away to be put to death, while neighborhood residents and police officers formed an honor guard to say him farewell. Hunter was a beloved dog who had been battling a fatal disease for several days. As a result, D’Aresta was forced to make the decision that no animal lover ever wants to have to do.

Since 2007, Hunter has worked for the county, according to the police, and during his tenure there, he has been a member of a “excellent team serving the City of Middletown to a high level.”
