87-Year-Old Cancer-Stricken Grandfather Seeks A Family For His Six Dogs

After going viral on social media, Santiago’s tale touched not just Spain but the entire world. Since he has no family but his six rescued dogs, Santiago, an 87-year-old man who has been battling lung cancer since December 2016, is searching for someone to look after them or families to adopt them.

In a video posted by the organization Animal Rescue Spain, Santiago says:

“They are just like my kids. In December 2016, a lung cancer diagnosis was made for me. I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy ever since. I’m really frail. I must immediately locate people who will take in my pets and shower them with as much love as I have.

Along with the video, the association also distributed the following message:

“Santiago, an elderly man with cancer requests a family for his pets before he passes away. He must depart them in capable hands.

The adoption of all six dogs—Trouvé, Quickly, Pichuli, Morita, Pelufra, and Leona—has already attracted a lot of interest. Although Santiago wants to view the animals for as long as he can, Verne claims that only applications from citizens of the Community of Madrid or the province of Guadalajara are approved.

There is a tale for each of the six dogs. “After Trouvé, the huge brown one, was struck by a car close by, Santiago saved him. The rottweiler, which was left behind, arrives quickly. The eldest brown is Pichu. He has had it for 16 years, ever when he was a puppy. The remaining canines in Santiago’s pack are the sisters Morita, Pelufra, and Leona.

“I have always taken care of abandoned animals. My own now need assistance. They have all been vaccinated, dewormed, chipped, and spayed. My sleep is disrupted, and I am left without the energy to care for them. Thank you very much to everyone.

UPDATE
Santiago passed away in May of last year. Three canines are still missing and trying to find a home as of the date of this article’s update.
