Couple Warns of Pet Choking Hazard After Tragically Losing Their Dog

a brokenhearted Christina Young spoke about the terrible death of her dog, who was only a year and a half old, in an effort to save other animals from the same fate. She announced the unexpected death of her cherished dog Petey on Facebook. Although Christina’s tale is terribly sad, she feels obliged to educate pet owners of this risk in order to protect her animals—something other people might not consider until it’s too late.

“I said good-bye to my infant and departed for work a week ago. However, he was unaware that it would be the last time. Nevertheless, I’m still not entirely sure I understand what occurred.”

She claims that the other day, when her partner Christian returned from work, he discovered something tragic.

“On Monday, Christian arrived home from work for around ten minutes, and when Petey didn’t meet him at the door as usual, he was taken aback. He observed our darling dead kid with a silly bag over his head as he entered the room further.

Sadly, Petey was able to reach the bag of chips that was on the counter.

“…we will forever be responsible for leaving her out. He consumed every chip, but he naturally returned for crumbs. Every time he tried for more, he inhaled since he had nothing left inside, which caused the bag to tighten around his head more and more until he eventually suffocated.

According to Christina, Petey was intelligent and initially didn’t understand why he wouldn’t use his paws to remove the sack off his head. She then conducted further study and learned how tragically frequent and rapidly a pet may pass away in this manner.

Every week, 3-5 pet suffocations are recorded, and 42% of those incidents take place with the owner in the adjacent room. Your oxygen level can decrease to deadly levels in as little as 3 minutes.

In actuality, this issue affects more pet families than they would imagine. Few owners, according to PreventVet, are aware of the threat that bags of various types of pet food can provide to animals of all sizes.

Christina, who describes herself as a “very overprotective dog mom,” is sharing Petey’s tale since she didn’t understand this was a risk.

She issues the following advice:

In fact, 90% of occurrences revealed that the owner had no prior knowledge of the incidence until it occurred to them (including us). The most typical bags tend to be those for chips, cereal, bread, popcorn, even dogs and cats.

The pain, remorse, and emptiness we experience in our hearts and at home cannot be adequately expressed. Petey taught us how to love in a way we had never learned before. He made waking up early for work so much more fun and was always there for us after a long day. He also made me giggle every day.
