Refugio Provides Dogs With Large Comfortable Chairs To Make Them Feel At Home

The canines at this shelter can feel at home until they can find a forever home thanks to the comfortable seats. Buster Brown, a dog who gave the shelter the idea to furnish seats for dogs, is credited with inspiring the program, according to Erin Buckmaster, volunteer executive director of the Knox County Humane Society in Galesburg, Illinois.

Erin stated to Today:

“Buster was at fault. They are fond of his seats. It is fantastic “.

Buster Brown was adopted as a puppy, but after his owners got divorced, he was returned to the Knox County Humane Society approximately a year ago.

He was back, but Buster didn’t appear to mind all that much. Erin actually said:

He cherishes the refuge.

But Buster steadfastly refused to go inside a kennel. He insisted on remaining in the front with the employees of the shelter. He also insisted on sharing his seats, which was more than he did.

Because Buster is well-liked, folks made an effort to be accommodating. However, he is not a little dog, and these seats are not large. A wonderful big red chair supplied by Mechanical Service Inc., a nearby plumbing and heating firm that was getting rid of its office equipment, was given to Buster by the staff as his personal seat.

The employees at the shelter decided that the other dogs would also like the seats because Buster enjoyed his chair so much.

We felt that everyone deserved a buster since they were so comfy.

Members in the neighborhood have contributed the chairs. According to Erin, it is old furniture that would would have been left on the pavement. There are now 22 seats for the pets who are offered for adoption at the shelter, which shelters roughly 50 dogs and 50 cats.

These chairs are receiving a second life by keeping these puppies content and comfortable in the shelter rather than being tossed out with the trash.

Due to space restrictions or because an animal has been a resident there for a long period, the Knox County Humane Society does not put animals to death. Because of this, kids require assistance keeping composed and actively engaged throughout what may be a protracted stay.

There is also a sizable yard where dogs may run, play, and receive lots of exercise, as well as a “real life room” where animals can become used to a family atmosphere. Additionally, a neighborhood McDonald’s offers leftover hamburgers as special gifts for the kids. (Don’t worry; cats prefer large enclosures with toys indoors and outside over tiny cages.)
