Vet Reveals What Pets Do In Their Final Moments, And It’s Absolutely Devastating

One of the most heartbreaking situations is having to put your beloved pet to sleep, especially if you consider them to be a vital member of your family. What they often do before they pass away and how our presence affects this condition have been disclosed by a veterinarian.

The following is what Knoxville, Tennessee resident Jessi Dietrich recalls hearing when she requested her cat’s veterinarian to describe the hardest aspect of their work to her on Twitter:

“He added that 90% of the owners didn’t want to be in the room when he gave an animal an injection when he had to put them down, thus the animal’s dying minutes are frequently spent looking wildly at their owners, and that crushed me.”

Jessi went on to say:

And because of this, no matter how upset my cat is, I will actually be holding her when the time comes, holding all of her favorite toys and giving her numerous ear scratches.

I asked my doctor what the toughest aspect of his work was, and he stated that 90% of owners don’t actually want to be in the room when he injects them, so the animal’s last minutes are generally them desperately searching for their owners. That shattered me, to be honest.

One of the Twitter users who identified themselves as a veterinary clinic technician said:

“About 80% of the owners want to be there, in my opinion! To make the transition easier, we first give them an injection to put them to sleep (essentially perform a surgical anesthesia).
