Meet Drax, an overweight dog who thinks he’s a tiny child.
When Charmaine Hulley’s sister discovered Drax, he was living on the streets of Queensland, Australia. “A few of years ago, my sister saw him curled up outside her local store.” “He appeared to be malnourished and neglected,” Hulley told The Dodo. “When she put him in the car, he became very still and wouldn’t look at anyone.”
Hulley was living with her sister and four little dogs at the time, and she instantly became attached to the new family member. “He’s the most calm dog you’ll ever meet,” Hulley remarked. “He’s the most loving, joyful, and laid-back guy who enjoys all other dogs,” said the owner.
Drax followed in the footsteps of the other four dogs, doing the same things they did, such as sharing their far too tiny dog beds.
Hulley brought Drax with her when she moved out and got another dog sibling for him. Drax was in for a surprise when he returned on a visit with his younger cousins a few years later.
He had gained a few pounds without realizing it as he transitioned from street dog to spoilt puppy. He became stranded after following his smaller relatives through the doggie door after a day of playing in the yard.
For Drax and his parents, it was a wake-up call.
At first, Drax wasn’t sure what happened …
… he didn’t understand why he was carrying around the door with him.
“Dad arrived home early and spotted half the doggie door panel on the ground and went inside, and Drax was strolling down the hallway with it on him,” Hulley explained. “When I turned around, Drax was standing on the stairwell, staring at me… my mouth dropped.”
