Cris Mamprim, a healthcare worker at Hospital Regional Alto Vale in Brazil, and her coworkers witnessed a moving moment last week that no one will soon forget.
It was a sight of love at its most basic level.
César, a homeless guy, arrived to the hospital at 3 a.m. on Sunday to request treatment and medication for a health condition he’d been experiencing. The individual is usually seen at another clinic in town, so Mamprim and the other personnel inquired about his health and background.
And it didn’t take long for them to understand that their new patient wasn’t alone.
César’s life was full with companionship despite his lack of worldly belongings. The staff noticed a pack of devoted canine buddies waiting for his safe return right outside the hospital’s front door.
Mamprim discovered that the guy had taken it upon himself to look after the dogs, who would otherwise be alone in the world.
In fact, César revealed that he regularly skips meals to ensure that the pups in his company are adequately nourished.
“They’re all fat and well-cared for,” Mamprim told The Dodo. “Seeing kids like that, waiting at the door, just goes to show how much they’re loved and cared for.”
The puppies were excited, yet patient, as they sat in the doorway, waiting for their companion. They wouldn’t have to wait long, though.
While the staff worked on getting César the medication he needed, they decided to allow his dogs inside so they wouldn’t be separated. In the meanwhile, they gave César some food (and by extension, his canine crew).
“Believe me,” Mamprim replied, “he ate some and kept a little to give to the dogs later.”
