Dog Abandoned At Gas Station Finds Sweetest Way To Ask Someone For Help

Shannon Ackerman stopped at a Texaco gas station in Missouri City, Texas, earlier this week to fill up her tank. She’d just rescued a husky and her two pups from a drain pipe close to a freeway, and she was driving them home with her. But the biggest surprise awaited Ackerman when she stepped out of her car.

“I felt something kiss me on the back of my knee as soon as I started pumping gas,” Ackerman, an independent dog rescuer, told The Dodo. “When I looked down, this wonderful, sorrowful German shepherd, who appeared to have recently given birth, was looking up at me with a look on her face that said, ‘Can you please help?'”

Despite having her hands full with the husky and puppies, Ackerman sought to discover out where the German shepherd came from.

“The petrol station was rather crowded, so I shouted, ‘Is this anyone’s dog?’ ‘Did one of you abandon this helpless child?’ According to Ackerman. “Of course, no one spoke out.”

Ackerman also talked with the owner of the gas station, who said he witnessed someone drop the dog and hurry away before he could intervene.

Meanwhile, Ackerman’s dog, Mercy, was weeping and pleading to get inside his car. Ackerman couldn’t take her since she already had the husky and puppies, as well as dog traps and supplies, in her car. Ackerman said, “It really crushed my heart.”

Ackerman, on the other hand, was adamant about assisting. Whitney Hartman, another independent dog rescuer, was still present when she returned to the place where she’d rescued the huskies.

“She stated there was a German shepherd mom whimpering and attempting to get inside her car in the [gas station] parking lot,” Hartman added. “Of course, I couldn’t leave her there, so I drove over,” says the driver.

Mercy jumped in as soon as Hartman opened the car door. “She hopped straight in,” Hartman added, “with no persuading.” “She was overjoyed to be driving.”

Mercy was tested for a microchip, but she didn’t have one, which was unsurprising. Her collar was filthy, but there were no ID tags on her.

“She was really nice and intelligent,” Hartman said. “She continued prodding my hand to obtain affection,” says the narrator.

Mercy was taken back to her house by Hartman, who promised her a wonderful lunch and a cozy bed. The next day, Hartman placed her in a foster home with Sauver Des Chiens, a local German shepherd rescue organization.

The rescue group isn’t giving up hope of finding Mercy’s puppies and reuniting them with her.

“We’re still looking for her babies and any information that might lead us to them,” Manske explained. “We’re scanning Craigslist and Facebook for anyone who might be able to rehome them.”
