When we talk about heroes, we’re talking about people who are a part of our daily lives and are always willing to help us. A buddy, a dog, or that person who happened to be at the right place at the right moment to save us.
Today, we’d like to tell you about a dog that has been lauded by Croatian rescuers and animal lovers for his amazing job in keeping his human father alive.
After a mountain climber and his dog tumbled and became stuck at 1,700 meters, the event occurred on Mount Velebit, on the coast of Croatia, in the Adriatic Sea. The young climber was hurt, but his devoted canine friend remained unharmed.
Our brave protagonist, North, is an Alaskan malamute who was never separated from his damaged father.
It was late at night, and the temperature was rapidly falling; the man may have succumbed to hypothermia, but owing to the dog’s body heat, he was able to keep his body temperature until the rescuers searched for them.
The rescue squad consisted of 27 individuals who climbed the snowy mountain range that borders the Adriatic Sea shore, but owing to weather circumstances, it took them longer to locate the young guy and his devoted friend.
Fortunately, North kept by the hiker at all times, keeping an eye on him and keeping him warm until rescue arrived. The rescue organization Hrvatska Gorska Sluba Spaavanja (HGSS) remarked on Facebook:
“North escaped injury, but his companion, a young climber, did not. She pressed herself against him and warmed him up with her body.”
The rescue effort took many hours, and they didn’t get at North and the young hiker until after midnight. They received all of the medical treatment they need in the early hours of the next morning.
The puppy managed to live, according to the rescuers, since he kept close to the young guy at all times. According to a representative for the rescue organization,
“North’s devotion did not cease when the rescuers arrived. For 13 hours, he was one of us, caring for his friend. We can all learn to look out for each other by following this example.”
