Roland Rydstrom of Anchorage, Alaska, opened the curtains earlier this month to let the early light enter his home. He was about to settle down to work when he noticed something out the window that was rather distracting.
A mother moose and her twin youngsters were sunbathing in his lawn.
He was aware that two mothers had given birth to twins in the woods around his home about a month earlier, but he normally only saw the young family when they went past his yard.
This mom moose and her offspring showed no signs of wanting to leave, seemed quite pleased to spend the day in Rydstrom’s garden.
He thought catching the moose family at such a private time was rare, so he took a couple shots with his phone.
Rydstrom told The Dodo, “I sat down to work, fully expecting the moose to move away, and they didn’t.” “They’d simply shift postures and, as you can see from the photos, they just kind of moved about to meet the light — especially the infants.”
He said, “It was great to watch the infants lazing together.” “They’d just get up and move about every now and again.”
Rydstrom worked from the protection of his window, keeping an eye on the moose. “We are aware that these are wild creatures,” Rydstrom explained. “We would always respect their space and give them freedom to lounge as they did, especially with a mom and her infants.”
One of the babies accidentally knocked over his marigold pot. The small animal appeared to be scratching his head on the pot to Rydstrom, but as it tipped over, the cheeky smirk on the baby’s face conveyed a different story.
The moose family also departed and returned again, much to Rydstrom’s amazement. “They got up and went away, and I thought they were gone,” Rydstrom added, “but they came back and did it again.” “On their way out, they tasted everything and did what newborns do, placing everything in their lips.”
Rydstrom raced to his window at 7 p.m. after hearing a loud boom coming from his backyard.
“Suddenly, I noticed the other cow and her calves were going through our property and past that family,” Rydstrom explained. “The mother and her children sprang to their feet and chased after them.” “It had been a jam-packed day.”
