Mama, the 59-year-old monkey and the oldest in the Dutch chimp colony at the Royal Burgers Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands, got severely ill. She fainted and appeared intractable, to the point of not taking a mouthful at all.

This meant Mama was going to leave us and travel to another level of life. However, when her old beloved caregiver, Jan Van Hooff, returned to visit her, a miracle occurred. Mama responded unexpectedly when the man talked to her and she heard his voice.

“In April 2016, Mama grew unwell, she was nearing the end of her life, and she refused to eat until I paid her one final visit and she heard my voice.” “It was really thrilling for me,” Van Hoof added.

This group of monkeys is well-known for being the pioneering source of study on the biology and social behavior of this kind of mammalian species, from which Frans De Waal produced his work Chimpanzee Politics.

It’s wonderful that Jan Van Hoof was able to learn of his loving Mom’s bad condition. When he was at his weakest owing to old age and without even eating, the co-founder of the colony and professor of behavioral biology brought him back to life.

The autumnal chimp was first too frail due to a lack of food as well as sorrow. You could tell he was merely allowing himself to be led to his demise, but as they say, “real love can accomplish everything.”

Mama approached her old friend in an effort coming from the purest center of her heart, defining a soft grin of relief when she found herself again in front of the one who loved her so much.

Mama had to hang on to one last breath of life in order to say goodbye to Jan, which was both beautiful and heartbreakingly painful. And she continued to do so for as long as she could. Emotions overpowered her, but terrible fate took her to a better place a week later.

In this video, you can observe Mama’s lovely interaction that has affected thousands of people:

“In fact, Mama was overjoyed to see me again. “Unfortunately, he died a week later,” Van Hoof added.

Whether for scientific, medical, sociological, or any other cause, we must remember that freedom is the most valuable good for all of us who live under the skies of this planet, and that no one has the right to imprison another to be alive in a cell without a reason.
