In Adorable Photo Shoot, Pygmy Hedgehog Packs His Tiny Bags And Goes Camping

The Instagram feeds of Azuki [now tragically spending his time at the Rainbow Bridge, but succeeded by Monaka and Uiro] and Uni and Toro are maybe the finest instances of this. In Japan, these pygmy hedgehogs live with their adoring owners.

Pygmy hedgehogs, so named because they are the smallest breed of hedgehog, are generally nocturnal and wild. In certain countries, keeping them as pets is permitted as long as they are properly cared for. Monaka, Uiro, Uni, and Toro certainly don’t want for anything!

Countless Instagram businesses and photoshoots feature these pygmy hedgehogs. Many of the subtitles will need you to know Japanese, but as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Take a peek at some of these creatures’ charming misadventures.

They’re frequently seen dressed up (miniature hats are a particular favorite) and out on fresh adventures. When it all becomes too much, both creatures curl up under a blanket and snooze — either separately or together.

It’s enough to make us want to get our hands on a pygmy hedgehog. However, be sure this offer is legal in your state before you pursue it. The states of Hawaii, Washington, Nebraska, New York, California, and Georgia have all made it illegal to keep these creatures, and additional cities may follow suit. Hedgehogs that get out in the wild may become a nuisance, disrupting the fragile environment in the area.
