And if she hadn’t, the world would have lost one more female ginger cat, which is unusual in and of itself!

Because Lorelei’s labor and subsequent start as a mother were anything but easy. When she was discovered, she was taken to Heidi Shoemaker’s Florida foster home, Foster Kitten Mama. Heidi prepared her home for the arrival of Lorelei’s kittens, not knowing when they would arrive. She didn’t have to hold her breath for long.

Lorelei gave birth to three kittens while under the care of experienced specialists.

Unfortunately, one of the babies was born with a fatal birth condition and passed away. Her labor stopped after the doctor was able to assist stimulate the first kitten out of the delivery canal. She went on to have another baby after that, and an x-ray was taken to make sure there were no more hiding in her large tummy.

Lorelei’s kids began to lose weight just a few days after her traumatic labor. This is quite dangerous for newborn kittens.

Heidi stayed by their side, armed with a syringe and medications and fluids for Lorelei. And, despite the fact that the youngsters were not pleased with the milk substitute, she began producing milk again a week later to the day! Heidi didn’t had to get up every 2-3 hours to feed the kittens anymore. When you’re a bottle baby foster, sleep is overrated anyhow.

And, wouldn’t you know it, it’s true! Little Luke had yet another surprise in store for them. He started opening his beautiful tiny eyes at only 4 days old, rather than the usual 10-12 days!

Finally, the family’s health seemed to stabilize, and they could all concentrate on what mattered most: having fun with the fluffy stuff!

Heidi was well aware that Luke and Leia were inextricably linked and would require adoption as a pair.

Mama Lorelei, on the other hand, was a devoted and caring mother who was constantly around her miraculous children. Mama cats are frequently abandoned after all of their kittens have been adopted. However, they are more deserving of affection than the majority of people.

Heidi had her priorities in place when the time came for them to be listed for “pre-adoption.”
