At Roger Williams Zoo, A Rare White Alligator Has Arrived

Elsa, a gator from a Florida park, was recently welcomed to a temporary exhibit at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Queen Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen” inspired her name.

Elsa is albino, which means she lacks color in her skin. Her eyes are also crimson, giving her a one-of-a-kind character.
She has a few problems as a result of her illness. Elsa is blind and has extremely sensitive skin. As a result, she is vulnerable to injury. As a result, the zoo has constructed a covered cage for the newcomer.

Sunburns can occur even after lengthy periods of exposure to the sun. Furthermore, because she lacks the ability to hide, her pale coloration renders her exposed to predators.
“If she were in the wild, she wouldn’t make it,” says zoo manager Corrie Ignagni. Because they are barely a few inches long when they are born, a larger alligator would most likely feed on her.”

So, the rare white alligator requires a habitat catering to her condition.

Alligators with albino skin lack the pigment melanin. They are albinism carriers with a recessive gene. The gator is a straightforward version of the American gator. Albino with pink-reddish eyes or leucistic with bluish eyes are the consequences of the mutation. Elsa is a remake of the previous one.

The beautiful creature calls the “Shades of Nature” home. The beautiful species will be on display at the “Shades of Nature” until September 5th, 2021. An albino snake and numerous juvenile American alligators are also on display.

Elsa is a very active character. She seemed to be having a good time. Swimming and rock climbing are two of her favorite pastimes. According to Ignagni, her favorite activity is napping. Which is a favorite pastime of most gators.

If you visit Roger Williams Park Zoo soon, keep an eye out for the celebrity.
