The renowned kitten used to reside next door to the St Sampson’s Cemetery in Guernsey, UK, with his owners. However, after they relocated, he continued to return to his former area and was finally re-homed there.

Everyone was saddened, according to Alan, a 63-year-old cemetery sexton who has been assisting with Barney’s care since 1996.

“When family and friends have experienced the tragic death of a loved one and go to visit a cemetery, they are not in the greatest of spirits, but Barney was always there to cheer them up,” he added. He brightened the experience for those who approached the cemetery with a sorrowful heart.

“There was not a bad bone in his body. We are putting a plaque on the wall and a bench and have found a little space for him in the cemetery where he is buried as well.”

Everyone who knew Barney adored him, and people adored him so much that they brought him gifts throughout the holidays.

His unwavering support for all those who came to the cemetery is enough to make you cry. He was a real friend to everybody, a ray of sunshine in the midst of despair. He truly was an angel.
